Step3- The hero refuses the challenge adventure or problem because he/she is scared or frightened. We realize that he won’t be living a peaceful life in the swamp on his own anymore, wether he likes it or not! In the film I think step2 is when the fairytale characters are all appearing in Shrek’s home. The hero is presented with a challenge adventure or problem. Step2- This is when we are first given notice that everything is going to change, whether they know it or not. This is his ordinary world living alone in the swamp, he has signs saying “stay out” which indicates he likes living there and being alone.

In the first 4minutes of the movie during the titles you see shrek doing his everyday actions, brushing his teeth with slug juice, eating eyeballs as food and setting a fire by burping on a match stick. Step1- The hero’s normal world before the story begins. I am going to discuss Campbell’s 12 steps and give a section of the film, which I feel each step relates to. It was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson. The film I am going to analyse is called Shrek, This is the first shrek made in 2001, produced and released by Dreamworks Animation.
Joseph Campbell created the term monomyth or the hero’s journey. He published a book in 1947 called “A Hero with a thousand faces”. Joseph Campbell was a teacher a writer and a Mythologist.
